There's a girl in my soup, provided a wonderfully witty insight into the strange interactions between men and women, commonly known as relationships. Written by Terence Frisby and directed by local woman Judith Sherry, the comedy delighted audiences of all ages when it was staged at the Kingston Butter Factory Butterbox Theatre. Peter Sherry played Robert Danvers, a high class middle-aged womaniser who, although holds a deep appreciation of the opposite sex, is unable to make any commitment to them. That is of course until he inevitably meets his match, the fast talking streetwise 19 year old Marion, portrayed perfectly by Belinda McLean. Robert, a high profile chef with magazine and television exposure, picks Marion up at a party. However, when he gets her home, he discovers she is more than a handful as his usual lines have absolutely no effect. The fiery young woman disects the veteran Romeo's womanising techniques, leaving him quite frustrated; especially when Marion outwits him and ends up with jimmy, her fast-living, dim-witted boyfriend who decides Robert's apartment is a good place as any to live. Robert is not pleased with this, but comes to have real affection for his moody and at times insecure companion. There's A Girl In My Soup draws paralles between Robert's and Jimmy's sexist ideas. Although they have vastly different life styles, and are both basically chauvinists. Both men decide they want Marion. Robert because he has never met anyone like her before, and Jimmy because she was his girl first. However, before making a final decision, she manages to turn tables on both men giving them a dose of thier own mecidine.
