We worked out of Woodridge State High School drama block. This was certainly an 'experience.' For security reasons the gates to the school had to remain on a chain which meant any audience member over nine stone could not get in. Then there was the time the students decorated our stage with spit balls. Our dressing room was a store room. But as they say it was great character building stuff.
Our next move was to Mary Street Hall, we considered this a move up, once again an experience! Like the time an actor went through a trap door in the floor. (Actually there was no trap door in that floor, I suppose you can call broken floor boards a trap door.) And what about those lovely big cockroaches which loved to play on the supper table? Then there was the break in, ( I suppose they wanted our curtains and cushions more than we did. )
We had happy times there and learned a great deal more about our craft. Here we really got into set building and performing theatre in the round - surely a first for amateur theatre.
Onwards and upwards to the Woodridge Senior Citizens hall, yes we felt safe running about, the floor seemed solid enough that's for sure and the cockroaches seemed to have missed the bus when we moved. Oops! One drawback though, no toilets out back! We had to walk through the audience to go to the loo. Not too much of a problem was it? All we had to do was 'Go' before the show. But what about those nervy wee wees? I wonder if any of the audience members noticed the red faces on our cast? And I wonder if they really knew what the red faces were all about. 'Hold on only 2 hours to go!'
1988 came at last and we moved into our new and current home.
The Kingston Butter Factory - Butterbox Theatre.
Dressing rooms ( 2 of them ) no cockroaches either and best of all,
our very own toilet! Finally all of our 'bits' props, furniture and costumes etc,
had a home too. We quickly learned some new experiences too,
one very unsuspecting night the 'powers at be' had double booked
the theatre so we all learned how to move a whole set
( already set up I might add ) just a few feet back.
Ok every body PUSH! ( Don't try this one at home folks! )
And here we still are! Logan City Theatre Company is proud to be a part of the Logan community and over the years has donated time & talents to many a community Organization. Our Aim? - To provide quality entertainment that is accessible in every way to all people of Logan city.
